We ran a certification academy that we built from scratch which trained hundreds of people to become certified practitioners in their field. We took an idea and turned it into a global training business doing six-figure months.
We also did it alongside raising a family, because we were determined our business wouldn't consume our entire lives. We automated things and we built systems.
Lead generation didn't depend on us being visible every week. We had inquiries and booked calls coming in without having to chase them down. And we got it right because we invested heavily in learning how to do it right.
We spent over $100k on consultants and agencies teaching us how to scale a business. The problem was: almost all of it was built for a completely different industry.
Most of the training out there on the things you need to scale your business (high-converting VSLs, powerful emails, lead generation funnels, sales call structures) it's all built for coaches. Business-to-Business coaches selling quick outcomes to other businesses. Fix this one problem, get this one result, move on.
The certification and training industry is nothing like that.
In this industry, we're selling Business-to-Client: High ticket products straight to the customer. It is often the first time someone has ever invested this much money in a program.
And we're not solving one small business problem...
We're selling an identity shift. A new career. A new business. A complete life change. That requires something completely different.
Before your students will invest in you, they need to trust you and they need to know that you understand them. That you're the right guide, mentor and coach for this journey.
We had to take every piece of training we paid for and translate it for the certification and training industry. We figured out which parts applied and which parts would actually hurt us if we used them. Because the psychology of selling a certification or a career change is fundamentally different from the psychology of selling Business-to-Business.
That's what took us the longest to figure out.
And it's what nobody else was doing.

The two core things we had to get right:
First: Lead generation has to work differently.
Most certification founders rely on their network or their existing audience for leads. You talk to people, you mention what you do, word gets out and it works to a point.
But it eventually it becomes the bottleneck on your entire business. There's a cap, both to the amount of hours you can work to bring in leads, as well as the amount of leads you can generate through your own organic network.
We experienced this directly. The more students we enrolled and were coaching in our programme, the less time we had for lead generation. And the less visible we were, the fewer leads came in. Growth stalled because we were trapped in that cycle.
To grow properly, you need something automated. A system that brings in strong leads who are ready and able to invest, so you can focus on what actually moves your business forward: converting them and supporting your existing clients.
Without that, you're always choosing between coaching existing students and getting the leads and struggle to get both.
Second: The sales process has to be real and authentic.
Clients like yours need to feel safe making a $5k, $10k, or $20k investment. The sales call isn't about selling them a program, it’s often about convincing them to invest in something that will change their life.
Generic sales training doesn't get this. You need to get to the actual heart of why they want this and you need to help them make a real decision, rather than convince them to go away and think about it.
